New Graduates: Tackling Interviews the Right Way

May 17, 2012 | No Comment |

For those fresh graduates are just coming into the job market, interviews are one of the first hurdles they will have to surmount before landing any job in the business world. Potential employers who are in the market for fresh college graduates are looking for specific qualities. They want someone they feel has all the qualities that will make them the right assets for the company. This is why learning the ropes about making the right impression on that job interview are important.

Tackling Interviews

To start off, we will have to go back to your resume because that is the first thing they will see of you before anything else. So your resume must grab the attention before you can be called for a job interview.

Research

The first thing you should do after you have been called for a job interview is to do a bit of research on your part. Research the company and get to know about it in everyway possible. Know the industry it is in and its position there. What you know prepares you and gives you the tools you can use to articulate yourself properly.

Presentation

This is something that should be a given but you must make sure you don’t under dress or over dress. The safest was is to go formal in your attire since it is a formal event.

Punctuality

Your must be there on time. You should be ushered into the waiting room rather than you joining those at the waiting room when the interview has already begun.

Follow the Rules of Engagement

You should adopt a formal disposition from the onset unless and until you are told otherwise. Your greetings, communications, and even choice of words should be formal. Don’t use slangs, street phrases and the likes but communicate with formal vocabulary

As simple and common place as these tips may sound, there are people who overlook them and end up shooting their aspirations down. The interview is simply the single most important thing you can ever attend to when it comes to securing that job so it should not be taken lightly. Rather take time out to research the company thoroughly and do everything else because the way you handle that coming interview might just make it the last you may have to attend before securing a job.
